The Bowls Development Alliance is a partnership organisation with a core purpose to; ‘sustain, grow and develop the sport in partnership with the Bowls family’.
Created by the Sport’s National Governing Bodies to channel Sport England investment into the sport, the Bowls Development Alliance’s primary goal is to increase participation in bowls whilst ensuring the sport is inclusive and accessible for all. It champions collaborative working across the sport, and it works to develop NGB-affiliated clubs and their volunteers, safeguard participants and share best practice.
Supporting Sport England current strategy “Uniting the Movement” is a key part of our work. Sport England state it is a critical time for the sport of bowls to articulate its contribution to boosting activity levels across the country and helping people realise the physical and mental benefits of playing sport.
We are working closely with our partners and developing a new, shared vision for growing participation in the sport through our core services which include Club Development, Education, and Safeguarding programmes.

The English Short Mat Bowls Association (ESMBA) which is Sport England’s recognised National Governing Body for Short Mat Bowls in England is pleased to be working alongside ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) in supporting Village Halls Week. Short Mat Bowls Clubs can be a lifeline for many village halls as they are regular users throughout the year, Village Halls in turn provide an ideal location to house a Short Mat Bowls Club thus becoming an ideal partnership in the making. The ESMBA recognises the need to foster good relationships with Village Hall Committees and by working alongside ACRE will strive to help them in the setting up of a Short Mat Bowls Club in their village. In the first instance village halls should email enquiries@esmba.co.uk for further information.

My name is Tony Holland and I'm the joint owner of The Bowls Shop - my dear wife Ann being the other partner. Welcome to our website.
Whilst Ann doesn't Bowl any longer, I've been playing Bowls for some 30 years, and having reached the latter stages of a few National Finals, I guess you’d classify me as a ‘reasonable’ Bowler and certainly someone with experience both Indoors and Outdoors. That means that since I opened the shop in 1992, I’ve been able to listen to my customers, empathise, and dispense the best impartial advice I can to make sure that whatever their ability, their level of experience or the issue they’re wrestling with, they will be able to make an informed choice as well as get a fair deal.
As well as having the shop, I also travel to Indoor Centres during the winter bowling season, and during the summer to various Bowls Tournaments such as those held in Skegness, Great Yarmouth etc. I also get to cover some men’s and women’s National Finals such as the Bowls Scotland National Championships held in Ayr, the Bowls England National Championships held in Leamington Spa and the English Short Mat Bowling Championships.
If you'd like to come and say "Hello" and see for yourself the clothing, Bowls and other bowling paraphernalia I take along to these venues, then check out if I’m coming anywhere near where you live or bowl by clicking on Roadshows.
