Message from your President
On behalf of the English Short Mat Bowling Association I am pleased to welcome you to the 30th occasion on which these Championships have been held. I would also like to thank Sutton Winson for their enthusiasm for our sport.
Once again I would like to thank, on behalf of the members, the hard work put in by the Chairman and Committee members in making the Championships possible.   A great deal of work has once again been done in order to make these Championships a success and I hope that once again they run smoothly.
Finally, I wish you all a good Championship. I’m sure we will see some good bowling.   Some will win, some will not, nevertheless Short Mat Bowls will finish up the winner and that will be good for some 18,000 of the rest of us.

All players are reminded that it is their responsibility to acquaint themselves with the Specific Rules applicable to these final stages which are printed in this booklet on the following pages.  They are also reminded that problems during play should initially be sorted out by the skips using the umpires to perform difficult measures and settle any line disputes. As always the umpires are available as an aid to the players and not in any way to dictate matters that are the prerogative of the skips.
I thank all of the County Competition Organisers for the hard work they have carried out in ensuring that the National Heats have been organised and for the co-operation and assistance that they have given.  Our thanks must also go to Daventry IBC for the use of their wonderful facility.
