Welcome to 2016 British Isles Championships

President of the Short Mat Bowls Council

Barry Hedges

As President of the British Isles Short Mat Bowls Council, I would like to take this opportunity in extending a warm welcome to players, officials, and spectators from Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England, this year’s British Isles Championships, being held at Bromsgrove Indoor Bowls Club.

This is the first time the English Short Mat Bowling Association has used the venue for such an event,  but know that the club will make you all feel welcome. We thank the club and its staff for allowing us to host the Championships here, and trust you all have an enjoyable time.

I am sure the standard of competition will be extremely high, old battles will be resumed and new ones will commence, I am hopeful that whatever the outcome, victory or defeat, that it will be accepted in the sporting manner which we expect from Short Mat Bowlers everywhere.

Some of the players will be experiencing the Championships for the first time, I hope that they savour the event and that they have the opportunity to play for their country in future years. For those of you that have attended the event over many years I wish you well and may there still be a few years left in you.

I would like to thank those members of the ESMBA both from the committee and general membership that have worked so hard behind the scenes to make this Championship a success. It is now on this weekend that they can enjoy their hard work.

Now all that is left to say is enjoy your time at these Championships and I hope you return home with good memories from your time with us.

Welcome from the President of the

English Short Mat Bowling Association

George Clarke

On behalf of the English Short Mat Bowling Association may I welcome all our friends from Ireland, Scotland and Wales to the 2016 British Isles Short Mat Bowls Championships.

Our venue this year is Bromsgrove Indoor Bowls Club, I hope you enjoy the arrangements made here on your behalf.

I am sure the standard of play will be high with old friendships and rivalries renewed and new ones made. To play for your Country is one of the highest honours you can achieve and whatever the outcome, be it victory or defeat, I am sure it will be accepted in a sporting manner and that Short Mat Bowls will be the ultimate winner.

I would like to thank those members that have given up their time over the last few months and this weekend to make this Championship a success, and hope the Championships is an enjoyable one. Whether it be as a competitor, spectator, or official.

Also thank you to all the sponsors that again contributed with their support of the event and our association again.
